UNIT 46 AUDIO-VISUAL PROMOS
EDIT SHEET
Review of footage: Which sequences are you most pleased with? Why? What went well on the
shoot? Do you need to reshoot anything?
I was very happy with the one shot we took of me
dancing. It was just one long shot of me dancing for minute; I like the way
this looked throughout the video. It was a constant through the video and
flowed well. It also had some subtle narratives in the shot as the friends
slowly disappeared through the video. It wasn’t obvious and you and to be quite
observant to spot this too.
There were some parts I think we could’ve reshot.
The shot of me dead on the chair doesn’t look too good and s quite short. I believe
we could’ve remade that to give it a better effect.
Initial edit structure: How do you plan to structure the video? How will you mix performance and
narrative? Outline your initial ideas
We are going to have 2 different things
happening in the video. There will be a narrative segment and a dance segment.
In the dance segment, there will be me dancing throughout the song, just doing
what happens typically in music videos. In the narrative segments, they will
overlap the dance. They will be short segments that give a story to the video.
It will show the character drinking and give the music video
Paper edit: Using the time-line below map out how you intend to edit the video,
remember to be specific about what takes you will use e.g close-up of lead singer
The video will start with the characters all
together. The main character is in red to contrast with the black that everyone
else is wearing. The character in red is the main character and this can be
shown with him in the middle of the group. As the music starts the character
starts to bop with the music whilst the others ignore the music completely,
also showing the audience that this is the main character. As the lyrics are
starting we can see the main character starting to lip sync the lyrics and
starting to dance a bit more. The characters in the background will begin to
drink the alcohol too. 15 seconds in and we get the first narrative part of the
video. The video will cut towards the main character drinking the alcohol by
himself and looking depressed; the edit for this will be in black and white to
show the audience that this is a flashback. The video will then cut back to the
character dancing and with all his friends. The friends in the back are still
proceeding to drink the alcohol whilst the character is lip syncing the lyrics.
At around 40 seconds another cut comes in that shows the main character
drinking again whilst leaning against the wall. This is to show the audience a
bit more of the narrative and show them what is actually happening within the
music video. After that it will cut back to the character dancing by himself
for a bit. It will then cut towards a car pulling into a car park; this will
happen to the beat of the music video. This is also part of the narrative that will
make sense later to the audience. It
will then cut back to the character dancing with his friends around him. This
will happen for around 20 seconds. It will then cut to a shot of the character
stumbling in the woods drunk; this will also be in black and white to show this
is a flashback. It will then cut towards the main character dancing with his
friends; one of the friends has gone missing at this point but this is meant to
be subtle so the audience doesn’t really notice it. It will stay on the
character dancing for around 20 more seconds before it cuts again. It will go
to a shot of the car parking in a parking spot. This is also in black and white
to show the audience that it is a flashback again. It will then go back to the
character dancing by himself for a bit. There will be a cut to one of the
friends in the background drinking; this shot will be a close up so we can see
his sad facial expression in the video. It will then go towards the character
dancing for a while again. When the beats drops there will be a lot of
distortion to highlight the fact the beat has dropped and make it look visually
appealing. This will happen for around 10 seconds. It will then cut to the
character stumbling in the woods again, this will be in black and white again.
It goes back to the character dancing for a bit. It then goes to a shot of the
character arguing with a parental figure in the car, this is in black and white
and shows more of the narrative of the video. It goes back to the character
dancing for a bit. Another one of the friends has disappeared too. There's
another shot of one of the friends drinking by himself again. This is also a
close up. It cuts to the character dancing for around 5 seconds. It then goes
to a shot of the character drinking by himself in a room as he sits on a chair.
It then cuts to the character dancing again. It then cuts to the character
passed out on a chair, this is also in black and white. Cuts back to him
dancing. Back to another black and white shot of the character dropping a
bottle of alcohol due him being passed out. It
then ends with the character walking off into the background

D) Linking Audio to visuals and applying audio effects
I made sure that the audio fits with the visuals. Making sure that the lip syncing matchers up perfectly. We did this by playing the actual audio whilst recording; I then put the audio of the song in the editing software and moving it until the audio plays at the exact same time. This way we could ensure that the actions we performed whilst recording match up exactly with the audio that will be put on during the editing.
I linked them up by clicking and dragging them accordingly until it perfectly matched together.
I also edited the visual to go along with the beat of the song. This makes the music video a little bit more interesting and more pleasing. I did this by cutting the video a second or two and making sure that the little cut happens just as the beat occurs. This makes it the video cut when the beat happens, making it cut to the beat
This is how I did it. This was one cut but I cut into 6 parts so it fits to the beat and makes the music video look a little bit better.
